Adiel Melendez of University of Montevallo Joins Atlanta Braves as Undrafted Free Agent – Exciting Journey Ahead!

University of Montevallo’s Adiel Melendez Signs with the Atlanta Braves

Adiel Melendez, a standout pitcher from the University of Montevallo, is beginning his professional baseball journey with the Atlanta Braves. He signed as an undrafted free agent on July 14, 2025, right after the MLB Draft.

Melendez expressed gratitude in his announcement, thanking his fiancé, family, friends, and coaches for their support. He particularly emphasized the role of Coach Chandler Rose, saying, “Coach Rose has been the best coach ever and fought for me. All I needed was the opportunity to show what I am capable of.”

During his senior year, Melendez excelled as one of the top pitchers in the Gulf South Conference (GSC). He achieved a record of 10 wins and 5 losses with a remarkable 2.38 ERA, striking out 102 batters, which was the highest in the conference and ranked 18th in Division II. His performance earned him several honors, including First Team All-GSC and D2CCA First Team All-Region.

Across his college career, Melendez pitched over 165 innings, securing 15 wins and 164 strikeouts with a career ERA of 3.21. Before Montevallo, he played at Alabama State and attended high school in Miami, Florida.

Coach Rose praised Melendez, stating, “Watching his work ethic and dedication over the past two years has been amazing.” Melendez is the second Montevallo athlete to join the Braves, following Logan Samuels, who was drafted in 2024.

As the 10th player in the program to sign with an MLB team, Melendez highlights the growing success of Montevallo’s baseball program. Recent statistics show that players from smaller colleges, like Melendez, are gaining more spots in MLB, reflecting a positive trend for undrafted talents.

Melendez’s journey is a testament to persistence and hard work, and many are eager to see how he embraces this new chapter in his baseball career.
