NEW DELHI: During the second ODI of the three-match sequence between Afghanistan and Zimbabwe in Harare, Afghan left-arm pacer Fazalhaq Farooqi was fined 15 per cent of his match charge for displaying dissent in the direction of an umpire’s resolution.
This violation falls underneath Article 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which prohibits exhibiting dissent at an umpire’s resolution throughout a world match.
The incident occurred within the fifth over of Zimbabwe’s innings on Thursday when Farooqi expressed dissent after an LBW enchantment towards Craig Ervine was turned down.
Despite the absence of the Decision Review System (DRS) within the match, Farooqi gestured for a overview, which led to the disciplinary motion.
As a consequence of his actions, one demerit level has been added to Farooqi’s disciplinary report, marking his first offense inside a 24-month interval.
Farooqi acknowledged the offense and accepted the sanction proposed by the match referee, Andy Pycroft, and leveled by the on-area umpires, Chris Brown and Percival Sizara, in addition to the third umpire, Langton Rusere, and the fourth umpire, Iknow Chabi.
Despite this incident, Afghanistan delivered a dominant efficiency within the second ODI, securing a convincing 232-run victory over Zimbabwe, their largest win by runs within the ODI format.
Sediqullah Atal (104) and Abdul Malik (84) laid a stable basis with a commanding 191-run opening partnership, enabling Afghanistan to publish a formidable complete of 286 for six of their 50 overs. In response, Zimbabwe’s batting lineup faltered, being dismissed for a mere 54 runs.
The third and remaining ODI of the sequence is scheduled to happen in Harare on Saturday.
