WASHINGTON – AFSCME President Lee Saunders spoke out against Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s nomination to lead the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).
“Health care workers need a leader who understands their challenges and values public health. Unfortunately, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. does not align with these needs. His focus seems to be on boosting profits for wealthy sponsors instead of improving access to care for our communities. He has shown that he plans to follow orders to cut crucial HHS programs like Head Start, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, and Medicaid. He also aims to halt efforts to reduce drug prices for Medicare beneficiaries. This is a direct threat to our most vulnerable communities.
“The 1.4 million members of AFSCME, including many who work in health care, social work, and education, are dedicated to serving our communities every day. We will continue to stand strong and fight against efforts that could undermine their vital work.”
