Even though we haven’t seen a new Terminator movie in six years, the franchise is still going strong through TV shows and video games. The upcoming game takes us back to a classic: Terminator 2: Judgment Day.
The new game, Terminator 2D: No Fate, is from Bitmap Bureau, the team behind Xeno Crisis and Final Vendetta. This retro-style sidescroller lets you step into the shoes of Sarah Connor, the T-800, and adult John Connor. As Sarah, you’ll use stealth and shooting skills to navigate levels while avoiding the deadly T-1000. Playing as the T-800 means you can blast and punch through enemies, including some memorable moments where you’ll be a naked Terminator. As John, you’ll race through a post-apocalyptic world, leading your fellow fighters against Skynet.
While there have been several game adaptations of Terminator 2, most have stuck closely to the film’s storyline. Bitmap is changing things up with No Fate. This game will feature key scenes from the movie but also introduce new, original content. Plus, it promises “multiple endings,” encouraging players to explore different choices that could lead to either salvation or doom. With the 25th anniversary of Terminator 2 approaching in 2026, this could be a great way to celebrate. Of course, there are also other recent Terminator games available, like Resistance and Survivors, or you might enjoy playing as the T-1000 in Mortal Kombat 1.
Terminator 2D: No Fate launches on September 5 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Bitmap has also hinted at a release on some “retro platforms,” but the details are still under wraps.
