Heidi Gardner is leaving “Saturday Night Live” (SNL) after eight seasons, according to multiple sources. This shake-up comes as the show prepares for Season 51, with other cast members like Michael Longfellow, Emil Wakim, and Devon Walker also parting ways.
Gardner was the longest-serving female cast member last season, appearing in more sketches than anyone else. She’s famous for her quirky characters, like the teen movie critic Bailey Gismert and the “boxing girlfriend,” Angel.
Outside of SNL, Gardner has showcased her talent in shows like “Shrinking” with Jason Segel and “The Other Two,” and she also starred in Adam Sandler’s film “Hustle.”
The departures reflect a broader reset at SNL. Walker shared his thoughts on Instagram, describing his three years on the show as a mix of amazing moments and challenges. Wakim echoed this sentiment, expressing gratitude for his time there and how surreal it felt to work at such an iconic place.
As the series gears up for its 51st season, set to premiere on October 4, it comes on the heels of a significant 50th anniversary celebration that included documentaries and a star-studded concert at Radio City Music Hall.
This shift also aligns with a trend in sketch comedy where many well-known shows are evolving. In a recent survey, 62% of viewers expressed a desire for fresh talent and new ideas in their favorite shows. It seems like SNL is listening.
