Ego Nwodim is leaving Saturday Night Live after seven seasons. This announcement follows speculation that the cast was finalized for Season 51, set to premiere on October 4.
In her own words, Nwodim explained, “The hardest part of a great party is knowing when to say goodnight. I am immensely grateful to Lorne, my castmates, and the crew. I’ve learned so much on that stage, and I’ll cherish those memories forever.”
Since joining SNL in 2018, Nwodim has become a fan favorite. Recently, she appeared in shows like Poker Face and Netflix’s Little Brother, featuring stars like John Cena. She expressed her excitement to pursue more acting opportunities, saying, “I want to be in films and do more TV as well.”
Her exit is part of a broader shift; she’s one of several cast members leaving this year. Others like Heidi Gardner and Michael Longfellow are also not returning.
Nwodim, who has a background in pre-med and UCB, made a mark with memorable sketches, including a viral moment as Miss Eggy. In a casual interview, she hinted at the uncertainty surrounding her return for the next season, stating, “We like to keep things mysterious around here.”
Reflecting on SNL’s 50th anniversary, she noted how special it was to share the stage with legends. “Being part of that experience was surreal,” she mentioned recently.
As SNL gears up for its next season, the cast now stands at 17, with newcomers joining familiar faces like Michael Che, Kenan Thompson, and Bowen Yang. This year promises fresh talent and new comedic direction, keeping the legacy of SNL alive and evolving.
