Seton Hall Women’s Golf Update: A Solid Performance at The Southern

Seton Hall’s sophomore golfer, Marta Aguilar from Casares Malaga, Spain, is shining bright at The Southern tournament in Statesboro, Georgia. After two rounds, she stands at even-par, tying for fourth place among 70 players. Aguilar scored two birdies in each round, contributing to her even-par scores of 72 in both rounds.

As a team, the Pirates are in 12th place with a total score of 628, which is 52-over-par. Their first round saw them score 315, and they improved slightly to 313 in the second round. Eastern Michigan is currently leading the tournament with an impressive 8-under-par total.

Newcomer Isabella Stewart from Wicklow, Ireland, showed progress too. After starting with a 10-over-par 82, she improved to a 78, bringing her total to 16-over for the tournament.

Junior Renee Rane and classmate Kasumi Tran also faced challenges. Rane scored 81 in both rounds, putting her at 18-over-par, while Tran is just one stroke behind. Senior Anne-Sofie Ekman completed the team lineup with a score of 21-over-par.

Interestingly, Forest Heights Country Club, where the tournament is held, has a rich history. Originally a 9-hole course opened in 1947, it expanded in the 1960s, creating a broader challenge for golfers. It has been redesigned several times, ensuring the greens are in excellent shape, mainly due to the efforts of the course staff.

The tournament includes 12 teams, and the format allows each team to field five players, counting the four lowest scores. Live scoring is available, and full results will be posted after each day of play.

In recent golf trends, statistics show significant growth in women’s collegiate golf participation. According to the NCAA, women’s golf programs have increased by over 25% in the last decade, illustrating a growing interest in the sport.
