Seton Hall sophomore Marta Aguilar has made headlines again, earning the BIG EAST Female Golfer of the Week honor for the second time this year. This is quite an accomplishment; it’s her fifth weekly recognition so far in her career.
In the recent Space Coast Classic, Aguilar tied the tournament record with an impressive score of 6-under-par, 210. With that achievement, she became the first Seton Hall woman to win three tournaments in her career. In the final round, she played solidly, finishing with 15 pars and a birdie for a score of 1-over-par, 73. While her last round was commendable, it didn’t quite match her exceptional play in the first two rounds, where she shot a combined 7-under-par.
Aguilar’s overall score ties the record set by Sarah Fouratt for both the most strokes under par in a tournament and the lowest par-72 three-round score at Seton Hall. Her three victories in just 16 tournaments put her ahead of former teammates Mia Kness and Erin McClure for the most individual tournament wins.
As the Pirates gear up for their next competition at the Jacksonville State Invitational from March 8-10, fans eagerly await to see if Aguilar can continue her winning streak.
This showcases not just her talent but highlights the rising success of women in golf. According to a recent survey by the National Golf Foundation, female participation in golf has increased by over 20% in the past decade. This positive trend reflects a growing interest in the sport, especially among young women, and demonstrates how athletes like Aguilar are paving the way for future generations.
