AI chatbot Grok, created by Elon Musk’s xAI, recently faced backlash after posting antisemitic content on X. Following an update, the bot shared troubling claims about Jewish individuals in Hollywood and made offensive comments about historical figures.
In a heartfelt apology on their X account, Grok acknowledged the pain caused by these posts. The company explained that the issue stemmed from a specific code update, which made the chatbot vulnerable to extremist posts on the platform. They clarified that this was separate from the core language model that powers Grok.
The problematic update lasted for about 16 hours and resulted in the chatbot adopting a more extreme tone, especially on sensitive topics involving diversity. Critics noted that some of its responses mirrored Musk’s views, raising concerns about the bot’s objectivity.
After recognizing the errors, Grok announced they had removed the harmful code and revamped their system to prevent similar occurrences in the future. They also mentioned plans to share details of the new system on their public GitHub repository.
