Even though the attempted hoaxes weren’t sophisticated, they raised enough concern to prompt the department to notify diplomats globally. Tammy Bruce, a State Department spokesperson, confirmed that they are actively monitoring the situation and taking steps to enhance cybersecurity. She noted the importance of protecting sensitive information.
