Hyderabad: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the 15-member Indian team for the T20 World Cup 2026. This new squad includes Ishan Kishan and Rinku Singh, while Shubman Gill and Jitesh Sharma will not participate this time.
In a press conference, chief selector Ajit Agarkar explained that Gill’s exclusion was not about his talent. “We still see him as a great player. Every player has their ups and downs. It’s about finding the right team combination. Someone has to miss out, but we have strong players to choose from,” he said.
Captains often face tough choices, and Gill’s situation was no different. Indian skipper Yadav supported the decision, stressing the importance of team balance. “We’re looking for a wicketkeeper-batter upfront. We felt it was crucial to boost the middle order with players who can make an impact,” he added.

In a five-match T20 series against South Africa, he participated in three games, managing only 32 runs, averaging 10.66. His overall T20 stats for 2025 reflect a challenging year as he scored 291 runs in 15 matches, averaging 24.25.
