Akhilesh Yadav Teams Up with Rahul Gandhi for Voter Adhikar Yatra: A Bold Move or a Crazy Decision?

On Saturday, Akhilesh Yadav, the leader of the Samajwadi Party and former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, joined Rahul Gandhi’s Voter Adhikar Yatra. He called the ongoing revision of electoral rolls a “crazy decision” and encouraged the public to push for a new government. He claimed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) fears U.S. tariffs imposed by President Trump, which he believes are harming Indian businesses.

Akhilesh’s participation highlighted the solidarity among the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA). Rahul Gandhi and leaders like Tejashwi Yadav welcomed him, describing him as a key ally in the struggle against what they view as threats to democracy.

As the yatra continued through Saran district, it reached Ara, where a public meeting took place. Rahul thanked the youth of Bihar for supporting their cause: protecting voting rights and democracy. He urged everyone to rally behind the slogan “vote chor, gaddi chhor,” meaning “vote thief, leave the throne.”

He criticized the current government, saying it only serves powerful figures like Prime Minister Modi and corporate tycoons. Rahul vowed to ensure fair elections in Bihar, claiming the BJP has rigged previous polls in other states.

Akhilesh slammed the BJP and the Election Commission, saying the days of the saffron party were numbered. He emphasized that elections in Bihar would be pivotal and highlighted that the people were ready to oust the BJP’s governance.

During his speech, he reiterated the importance of safeguarding the right to vote from what he called an oppressive regime. He raised concerns about U.S. tariffs affecting Indian exports and condemned the BJP’s silence on such issues.

Tejashwi Yadav echoed these sentiments, urging the public to unite against the BJP and fight for their democratic rights. He criticized the ruling party for past governance and sought to mobilize support for the INDIA platform.

Annie Raja from the Communist Party of India also spoke, adding her voice to the call for change. The yatra has turned into a demonstration of collective strength among various opposition parties.

This initiative isn’t just about electoral rolls; it addresses wider economic concerns in Bihar. Historically, states like Bihar have been crucial in shaping national political outcomes, particularly during elections.
