Alan Ritchson stands out in Hollywood. He’s not just another action star; he’s refreshingly honest about his journey. In a recent interview with GQ, he shared his thoughts on a mix of topics, including his rise to fame, politics, and the hard work behind his success—just in time for the third season of Reacher.
One of the most talked-about parts of the interview involves Ritchson’s schoolmate, controversial politician Matt Gaetz. Ritchson expressed his strong disapproval of Gaetz, saying, “It’s shocking to me that the panhandle of Florida continues to vote for somebody—knowing everything we know about him.” Gaetz has faced serious allegations, including accusations of child sex trafficking, but he has not been charged. Recently, a House Ethics Committee report noted instances of Gaetz paying for sex and using illegal drugs.
Ritchson also contemplated a move into politics himself, driven by a desire to bring about change. He admitted, “There’s part of me that wants to get into politics to outdo somebody like him for good.” However, he expressed doubt about his ability to navigate the political landscape while staying true to himself.
Since rising to fame as Jack Reacher on Amazon Prime, Ritchson has been busy. He hasn’t had many days off, juggling multiple projects, including The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare and Ordinary Angels with Hilary Swank. Yet, he remains dedicated to Reacher, a series based on Lee Child’s popular books. Child has praised Ritchson, stating that he knew immediately Ritchson was the right choice for the role.
The Reacher showrunner, Nick Santora, echoed this sentiment, highlighting Ritchson’s incredible work ethic. He noted that Ritchson puts in the effort needed to master his lines and fight sequences, which makes him a joy to work with.
Ritchson also addressed some criticism from viewers, particularly Christians, regarding his character’s romantic escapades on the show. He pointed out the oddity of confusing fictional characters with real people, saying, “I get criticized a lot by Christians… I’m sorry — I doubt that’s going to be part of the conversation when I’m standing at the pearly gates!”
Looking ahead, Ritchson is motivated for the future of Reacher. His goal? “I want season 10 to be the best season we’ve ever had.” With that ambition, fans can expect more thrilling content in the years to come.
