Aldi recently took a surprising step by discontinuing a popular item: Somersby Cider. At one time, shoppers could grab a 10-pack of 375ml cans for about $23.99. But many customers were confused when they found it missing from shelves.
Aldi confirmed that the cider is off the shelves indefinitely, leaving some shoppers feeling sour. Somersby, made by Danish company Carlsberg Group, is known for its refreshing flavors like apple and pear. Comments from customers showed mixed reactions. Some expressed disappointment on social media, hoping Aldi would reinstate the drink.
One Facebook user shared their frustration, saying, “Not happy! Aldi no longer sells Somersby Cider.” Others, however, welcomed the change, arguing that the newly stocked Amber Orchard cider was superior. Prices for Amber Orchard are around $7.99 for a four-pack.
Interestingly, some shoppers voiced their complaints about not being able to buy alcohol in states like South Australia and Queensland. Local laws there restrict liquor sales in stores. In contrast, shoppers in New South Wales and Victoria enjoy more options, including the ability to purchase alcohol directly from Aldi’s shelves.
Recently, Aldi made shopping easier through a partnership with DoorDash, allowing customers in select states to get their favorite beers, wines, and spirits delivered right to their doors. This change reflects a broader trend in retail, where convenience and quick access are becoming increasingly important to shoppers.
As Simon Padovani-Ginies from Aldi Australia said, they are focused on enhancing convenience. Being able to order drinks for celebrations or quiet nights in adds to the appeal of shopping with them.
So while some may miss Somersby, others seem ready to embrace new offerings. As customers share their thoughts, it’s clear that preferences can vary widely, and Aldi is keeping an eye on what their shoppers want.
