Alex Bregman Joins Red Sox: Exciting 3-Year, 0 Million Deal Announced!

Alex Bregman is starting fresh with a new team. He just signed a three-year, $120 million deal with the Boston Red Sox. This move came after a tough free-agent journey, where expectations didn’t quite match reality.

After being a top target this offseason, Bregman was the last major free agent without a contract. His agent, Scott Boras, sought a hefty deal, and while Bregman had some offers of six years and up to $170 million, no team met those demands. The contract with Boston has opt-outs after each of the first two seasons, giving Bregman flexibility if his performance improves.

Last season was challenging for Bregman. He will turn 31 soon, so age might be a factor in teams’ hesitance to sign him. His performance dipped in 2024, showing concerning stats like a rise in strikeouts and a drop in walks. His 23.6% chase rate and 44.9% swing rate were higher than they had been in years, which likely affected his on-base percentage. His numbers are not unfamiliar for players in their early 30s, but they signal that he needs a strong season with the Red Sox to bolster his value before hitting free agency again.

In Boston, Bregman is expected to play second base, a shift from his usual third base position. This change comes as the Red Sox already have Rafael Devers, who is younger and more productive. Bregman has played multiple positions in his career but hasn’t been at second since 2019. Meanwhile, the Red Sox are eyeing top prospect Kristian Campbell, who may also contribute in various roles.

As Bregman embarks on this new chapter, all eyes will be on how he adapts to his new position and whether he can reclaim his past form.
