Santa Clara, California – Alexa Pineda, a talented golfer from Santa Clara University, has secured her spot in the 125th U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship. This exciting news comes after she performed impressively at the La Rinconada Country Club qualifier, where she shot a remarkable 1-under 69, placing her tied for second.
Hailing from San Carlos, California, this will be Pineda’s second consecutive appearance at the prestigious championship, scheduled for August 4-10 at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort in Oregon. She’s made history as the first Bronco golfer to qualify for this event since Sarah Busey did in 2019.
In an impressive showing, Pineda finished just one stroke behind event champion Sneha Sharan, a two-time Big Sky Player of the Year from Sacramento State. Alongside Pineda, other qualifiers included Olivia Duan from Princeton and Lauren Sung from the University of Michigan.
“I’m incredibly grateful and excited to qualify for the U.S. Amateur,” Pineda shared. “It feels amazing to see my hard work pay off. I can’t wait to compete against the best amateur golfers in the country at such an iconic course.”
During her freshman year, Pineda participated in four tournaments, with her best finish being a tie for 22nd place at the Wolverine Invitational.
