Alvarez and Nhavene Shine as ITA All-Americans: A Triumph for the University of Oklahoma Tennis Team!

Senior duo Luis Alvarez and Bruno Nhavene have wrapped up their time at Oklahoma by achieving ITA All-America honors. This recognition is a significant milestone, following in the footsteps of former Sooner Alex Martinez, who finished his senior year ranked No. 15 in singles.

Alvarez and Nhavene played at the highest level in the No. 1 doubles position. They faced tough competition but consistently delivered impressive results. Over the spring season, they notched 13 wins, which included seven against SEC rivals and six versus nationally ranked teams.

Their contributions helped propel the Sooners to a strong overall record of 20-7 and a 10-4 mark in SEC matches. Notably, they ended the regular season on an exciting eight-match winning streak. This streak featured victories over five teams ranked in the top 15 and three in the top 10. Their performance led the team to achieve a No. 4 seed in the SEC Championship and climb to a season-high national ranking of No. 8. Ultimately, they made it to the NCAA Sweet Sixteen by winning 10 out of their last 12 matches.

According to recent statistics from the NCAA, doubles teams play a crucial role in college tennis success. Winning doubles matches often sets the tone for singles play, as teams that secure the doubles point tend to perform better overall. This highlights just how vital Alvarez and Nhavene were to their team’s achievements.
