Amanda Seyfried is diving into a new TV project!
The Emmy-winning actress is set to star in and produce Skinny Dip, based on Carl Hiaasen’s novel. After initially being developed at HBO Max, the show has now moved to Prime Video, thanks to a tempting offer from the streaming giant. The dramedy comes from Warner Bros. Television, with writers Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis, known for their work on Once Upon a Time, and Bill Lawrence as the executive producer.
The storyline follows Joey Perrone, who has a not-so-great second anniversary. Expecting a romantic gift, she instead faces a shocking betrayal from her husband, Chaz. Fueled by anger and a desire for revenge, Joey teams up with a disgraced ex-cop to confront Chaz. It’s a mix of action, romance, and dark comedy, exploring themes of accountability and vengeance.
If it makes it to series, Skinny Dip will be the third adaptation of Hiaasen’s work for TV in recent years. Bill Lawrence’s Bad Monkey is already on Apple TV, and another adaptation, RJ Decker, is expected to premiere on ABC next year.
Seyfried has been making waves lately, winning an Emmy for her portrayal of Elizabeth Holmes in The Dropout on Hulu. She’ll soon appear in The Housemaid and The Testament of Ann Lee, both releasing in December.
Recent surveys indicate that viewers are hungry for more unique adaptations and fresh storytelling, which could explain the buzz around Hiaasen’s novels. In a time when audiences crave original content, Skinny Dip might just hit the mark.
