An American influencer was shocked to discover that Australians typically don’t pay for endometriosis excision surgery, which she had recently undergone in the U.S.
This influencer, known as YourFrendo, spent $5,760 on the surgery plus a monthly $1,295 for insurance. In contrast, she found that many Australian women receive the same treatment without any out-of-pocket expenses if they are treated within the public healthcare system.

As of 2024-2025, nearly 7,000 procedures were done privately, with an average additional cost of $1,850. Interestingly, only one in ten Australians paid for their own surgeries.
Experts highlight that endometriosis is on the rise, impacting many more women than before—up from one in nine in 2019. The Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW) noted that over 40,000 hospitalizations due to endometriosis occurred between 2021 and 2022.
While many Australians shared their positive experiences on social media, including minimal out-of-pocket costs, they also voiced concerns about the extended time it takes to get diagnosed. The average wait for a diagnosis is six-and-a-half years, according to Endometriosis Australia.
The U.S. influencer pointed out the contrast in healthcare systems. She expressed hope that Americans would advocate for similar reforms. Many people in the U.S. struggle with high medical bills, often wishing they could trade costly insurance for a tax-supported system like Australia’s.
