COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The men’s sprint team made history by breaking a 60-year record. Emilio Hooper, Alex Zenit, Jason Omari-Anim, and Gregory Celariste clocked in at 42.03 seconds at the Kehoe Twilight Meet. They edged past the old record by a mere hundredth of a second.
Several Eagles shone in other events too:
- Senior Cooper Michaud achieved a personal record (PR) in the men’s steeplechase, finishing at 9:04.54. This marks him ninth in the Patriot League.
- In the men’s 800, senior Carver Morgan finished third in 1:47.41, while sophomore Ty Parker won his heat in 1:54.71.
- Freshman Shealyn Brochu led the women in the 1500 meters, finishing fourth with a PR of 4:29.75.
- More personal bests came from sophomores Kara Langbaum (4:39.95) and junior Scarlett Lestina (4:50.48).
Freshman Emmett Engelhardt also impressed in the men’s 1500 with a PR of 3:50.43. Gregory Celariste continued to shine, running a lifetime best of 22.00 in the 200 meters, landing him fifth all-time for AU.
In the women’s 3k, rookie Emma Colavito and sophomore Zoe Rector made the all-time list with impressive finishes of 10:15.96 and 10:20.05, respectively. Senior Annie Ripol also improved her time, dropping 13 seconds off her previous PR.
Jack Chandler made strides too, dipping under nine minutes in the men’s 3k for the first time with a time of 8:57.86.
Coaches’ Insight
Head coach Sean Graham praised the team’s performance, emphasizing the importance of this meet as they gear up for the Patriot League Championships later this month. “It was a fantastic way to finish the regular season,” Graham noted.
Looking Ahead
The Eagles now have a break before heading to the championships at Navy on May 15-16.
This year’s performance echoes a growing trend in college athletics.
