Anthony Mackie Unveils His Transformation into Sam Wilson in Captain America: Brave New World and Shares the Inspiring Song Behind It

In a recent chat, Anthony Mackie, who plays Captain America in Captain America: Brave New World, shared how he gets ready for his roles. For Mackie, finding the right vibe for Sam Wilson, the character he embodies, is all about creativity.

During an interview with Fandango, he explained his unique approach. “I do three main things,” he said. “First, I choose a piece of art that captures the essence of the character. Second, I pick a song that connects with the emotions I want to portray. Lastly, I select a food — because everyone eats!”

Mackie also talked about how the Russo Brothers, the directors known for their work on Avengers films, played a key role in shaping his preparation. “When I was cast, Joe Russo suggested the song ‘Trouble Man’ by Marvin Gaye. It resonated with both of us. So, every day before filming, I’d listen to it on my drive to work,” he shared.

To further immerse himself in his character, Mackie bought a piece of artwork by Romare Bearden, which he felt truly represented Sam Wilson as Captain America. He mentioned that choosing the right food was tricky, but eventually, he found the perfect dish. “I asked a local chef in New Orleans for a special Captain America boudin, and he made it for me,” Mackie said with a grin. Now, with his Bearden artwork, a tasty boudin, and the sounds of ‘Trouble Man,’ he feels ready to portray Captain America.

Captain America: Brave New World is a significant film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Set to release on February 14, 2025, it marks Sam Wilson’s first major adventure as the new Captain America following the events of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Alongside Mackie, the cast includes Harrison Ford, who steps into the role of Thaddeus Ross, and Danny Ramirez as Joaquin Torres. Directed by Julius Onah, the movie promises to deliver an exciting continuation of the beloved franchise.
