Apple is shaking things up with a new subscription model in the App Store. Developers can now offer monthly subscriptions with a 12-month commitment. This means you can pay smaller amounts each month while committing to a full year.
Here’s how it works: users can cancel their subscriptions anytime. Once they fulfill their commitment, their subscription won’t renew automatically. Apple aims to keep things transparent by letting users track their payment progress easily through their Apple Account, along with notifications to remind them of upcoming renewals.
Currently, this option is available for developers in App Store Connect and can be tested using Xcode. However, it won’t be available to the public just yet. Users running iOS 26.4 or later can access it globally, but there are two significant exceptions: the United States and Singapore won’t have this feature at launch. Apple hasn’t provided a reason for this limitation, nor any timeline for when it might become available in those regions.
This change reflects a larger trend in app subscriptions. According to a survey by Statista, subscription app revenue is projected to reach over $25 billion by 2025. More people are opting for flexible payment plans, showing a clear demand for options like Apple’s new model.
While it’s exciting news for developers and users alike, it’s important to remain cautious. Promotions and special offers often come with fine print. Always read the terms before committing to ensure you understand how it affects both your wallet and the user experience.
