Apple has just rolled out the iOS 18.4 beta, packed with some fresh features. One standout is the introduction of Priority Notifications powered by Apple Intelligence. There’s also a new Food section in the Apple News app. But there’s a smaller update that seems to have slipped under the radar, specifically for CarPlay on larger screens.

As noticed by Jace on Threads, CarPlay now supports a third row of app icons, enhancing how we interact with apps on bigger car displays. This fits in well with the trend of cars featuring larger screens.
However, this change isn’t available for all vehicles. The additional row of icons appears only on larger displays, but it’s unclear which size exactly triggers this update. For example, MacRumors highlights that this feature is available in the Toyota Tundra, which can come with a 14-inch display.
This update is a great improvement. As car screens keep growing, users needed a better way to take advantage of the space. The old two-row setup didn’t quite do justice to larger displays. Now, with this extra row, it’s easier to access apps without flipping through multiple pages.
