You could only tap your alarm for a measly nine minutes—no adjustments allowed.
That all changes with iOS 26, recently announced at Apple’s WWDC 2025. Finally, users can set their own snooze time. Now, you can hit snooze for up to 15 minutes! For many of us, those few additional minutes can feel monumental. Instead of a quick doze, you now have a little more time to navigate those weird dreams—like trying to drive a car with faulty brakes or stressing about your missing teeth.
But it gets even better. You can also set your snooze time shorter if you’re feeling bold. The beta version lets you pick anywhere from one to 15 minutes, giving you some control over your morning routine. It seems a bit surprising that Apple took so long to introduce this simple feature, but they have a history of keeping things tightly controlled. Yet, over time, they’ve begun to allow more customization, like changing app icons and wallpapers, making iOS increasingly user-friendly.
Interestingly, the nine-minute snooze has its roots back in the 1950s. GE’s Model 7H241 alarm clock was the first to introduce this feature. Why nine minutes? The mechanics of the gears used in the clock couldn’t support a perfect ten, so they settled on nine. That choice stuck around for decades, shaping the snooze experience for millions.
