Apple’s Game-Changer: How AI ‘Doctor’ Agents Will Revolutionize Your Healthcare Experience

Apple is stepping up its game in healthcare with a new artificial intelligence (AI) project called “Project Mulberry.” This initiative aims to provide health advice through an AI agent, making it one of Apple’s strongest pushes into the health sector yet, as reported by Bloomberg.

Previously, Apple explored a concept known as “Project Quartz,” focusing on health coaching. This earlier project aimed to help users improve their exercise routines, diet, and sleep patterns using AI. Now, the company is ramping up development on this new project, with a potential release alongside the iOS 19.4 update expected in the spring or summer of 2025.

The main goal for Project Mulberry is to enhance the Health app by allowing it to gather data from various devices. The AI will then use this data to give users personalized health advice. Apple plans to train this AI by utilizing information from its in-house doctors while also seeking expertise from external specialists in areas such as sleep, nutrition, mental health, and cardiology. These experts will contribute video explainers on health topics, aiming to provide users with reliable information.

In addition to personalized advice, the revamped app will place a significant focus on food tracking, an area where Apple has previously held back. This would position Apple to compete with popular health apps like MyFitnessPal and Noom, expanding its footprint in the health and wellness space.

However, Apple has encountered challenges before. For instance, the company had to remove a blood oxygen feature from its smartwatch due to a prolonged patent dispute with medical technology firm Masimo.

The intersection of AI and healthcare is witnessing increased investment. A recent report from PYMNTS indicates that healthcare firms are heavily investing in generative AI (GenAI). The report, based on surveys of executives from companies with significant annual revenue, shows that 90% of leaders expect a positive return on their AI investments. This optimism suggests a trend where healthcare is leading other industries in the adoption of innovative technologies.

As AI continues to reshape various sectors, it’s clear that companies like Apple recognize the potential benefits of merging technology with healthcare, potentially leading to a future where personalized health advice is just an app away.
