Arctic Outflow Brings Snow to Vancouver Island: What You Need to Know About the North Coast Weather Warning

More snow is on the way for British Columbia’s south coast after a heavy snowfall hit earlier this week.

According to Environment Canada, a low-pressure system is moving in, creating “bands of flurries” over Vancouver Island. Some areas might see more than 5 centimeters of snow.

Travelers should plan for extra time as road conditions can change quickly.

In northern parts of British Columbia, like Terrace and Kitimat, an Arctic outflow is expected. This means cold temperatures and strong winds, which could make it feel like -20 degrees overnight and in the mornings.

People in these areas are advised to stay indoors as much as possible and to keep pets safe and warm.

Recently, the cold weather caused significant snowfall and even closed some schools. On Friday, the temperature in Abbotsford dropped to -11 degrees, breaking a record that stood since 1989. Other communities like Hope, Sechelt, and Gibsons also set new low temperature records, with Hope reaching -8.6 degrees, which surpassed a record from 1948.
