Set in a chaotic 2020 America, it dives into conspiracy theories, political divides, and social media’s impact on society. The film stars Joaquin Phoenix as Joe Cross, a sheriff who runs for mayor in a fictional New Mexico town. This marks Aster’s first competition film at Cannes, known for his previous hits like “Hereditary” and “Midsommar.”

“Eddington” explores the mental strain of the pandemic, pitting Cross against the town’s mayor—played by Pedro Pascal—over mask mandates. Emma Stone plays Cross’s wife, creating a deeper personal conflict that escalates as the story unfolds.
