TUCSON, Ariz. – The No. 8 Men’s Tennis team had an impressive day, winning both matches against St. John’s and Northern Arizona with identical scores of 4-0 at the LaNelle Robson Tennis Center.

In their first match against St. John’s, Arizona started strong by winning the doubles point. The top duo of Jay Friend and Eric Padgham, ranked 58th, continued their winning streak, defeating Max Amling and Armando Sotelo 6-4. On court two, Inaki Cabrera-Bello and Alexander Rozin secured the doubles point with a 6-3 win over Leonardo Mileikowsky and Ignacio Vinas.
Arizona dominated in singles, finishing with straight-set victories. Friend, ranked No. 9, was the first to finish, overpowering Amling 6-2, 6-0, boosting his dual record to an impressive 11-0. Next, freshman Filip Gustafsson won 6-1, 6-3 against Vinas. Senior Casper Christensen clinched the match for Arizona with a 6-0, 6-4 victory over Mileikowsky.
After a short break, Arizona played their second match against Northern Arizona. They again secured the doubles point, with victories from Cabrera-Bello and Oskar Jansson on court three, and Gustafsson and Glib Sekachov on court two.
In singles, Arizona continued their winning streak. Freshman Matthias Kask was quick to finish, winning 6-1, 6-2 against Takumi Katsuda on court five. Sophomore Cole Stelse followed with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Mateusz Lange on court six. Oskar Jansson clinched the match for Arizona with a 6-2, 6-3 win against Jakub Volesky on court four.
Next up, the Cats will face Tulsa on Sunday, March 9, at 12:00 p.m. MST at the Robson Tennis Center.
