Southland Casino Hotel in West Memphis, Arkansas, recently pledged up to $180,000 over three years to the Mid-South Food Bank. This support will help provide mobile food pantries and meals to families in Crittenden County, addressing a critical need for food assistance.
Osi Imomoh, the President and General Manager of Southland Casino, emphasized the casino’s commitment to helping the local community. “We’re proud to partner with the Mid-South Food Bank to ensure those in need in Crittenden County receive proper nutrition,” he stated.
This funding will assist the food bank in purchasing food and covering transportation costs for two mobile food pantry distributions each month in Earle and Turrell. About 500 meals will be distributed each month—nearly 6,000 meals a year to those who need it most.
The Mid-South Food Bank serves 31 counties, working tirelessly to eliminate hunger. Scott Fortin, the Food Bank’s President and CEO, expressed gratitude for Southland’s support, highlighting their mission to provide wholesome food to vulnerable populations like children and seniors.
In addition to this food initiative, Southland has made significant improvements to nonprofits in West Memphis. Recently, they revitalized the kitchen and facilities of Hope House Ministries and the 8th Street Mission. These projects included upgrading food storage with a new freezer and renovating bathrooms to ensure hygiene and functionality.
“These organizations have unique needs, and we’re happy to lend our support,” Imomoh said. This approach is part of a larger philosophy from Delaware North, Southland’s parent company.
Moreover, construction is ongoing for the new Carolyn & Ness Sechrest Animal Shelter, funded by a generous $1.7 million donation from Delaware North. The new shelter aims to be larger and more efficient, addressing ongoing challenges faced by the current facility.
