Arkansas Tech University’s Bull Joins NCCEP Committee: A New Era of Leadership and Collaboration

Jeremy Bull, a professional development coordinator at Arkansas Tech University, has recently joined the communications advisory committee of the National Council for Community and Education Partnerships (NCCEP). This two-year appointment is a significant opportunity for Bull, especially since NCCEP represents professionals in the GEAR UP initiative.

Arkansas Tech has received a prestigious GEAR UP grant starting with the 2024-25 academic year. This grant, worth $6.1 million over seven years, aims to support 1,157 students from the Clarksville and Russellville school districts.

The main goals of the ATU GEAR UP program are clear. They focus on boosting students’ academic performance and preparing them for college. The program also aims to raise the high school graduation rates and encourage more students to pursue higher education. Additionally, it seeks to educate students and their families about the various options and financial preparations for college.

Notably, Arkansas Tech is the only institution in Arkansas to secure this GEAR UP grant in the current cycle. Importantly, the staff will work closely with the same group of students from Russellville and Clarksville all the way through their high school years, ensuring consistent support.

This program reflects a broader national trend. Recent studies indicate that GEAR UP initiatives across the U.S. are making a positive impact on student readiness for college. According to a report from the American Council on Education, GEAR UP students have shown an increase in both college enrollment and graduation rates compared to their peers.
