Arrest Made After Intense Manhunt for Suspected Shooter of Minnesota Lawmakers

A 57-year-old man was arrested in Minnesota for allegedly killing a Democratic state lawmaker, Melissa Hortman, and her husband, Mark. The arrest followed a two-day manhunt that led authorities to Vance Luther Boelter. Minnesota Governor Tim Walz described the incident as a “politically motivated assassination.”

Police said Boelter was armed but surrendered without incident in a rural area west of Minneapolis. He is also accused of shooting and injuring Democratic State Senator John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette, both of whom are recovering in the hospital. Yvette shared that they felt “incredibly lucky to be alive.”

Boelter was tracked down after investigators located a car he reportedly used. This manhunt became the largest in Minnesota’s history, involving air and SWAT teams. Thankfully, no police officers were injured during his capture, and authorities believe there are no other suspects.

Boelter had a background as a political appointee and was once on the same state workforce development board as Senator Hoffman. He has worked as a security contractor and missionary in Africa and the Middle East. Reports indicate that investigators found a list of “targets” in his vehicle, although the specifics of the names remain unspecified for security reasons. Additionally, law enforcement has reached out to authorities across several states to warn potential targets.
