LAREDO, Texas – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers made a significant arrest recently at the Laredo Port of Entry. They apprehended a woman, Melanie Sustaita Rivera, who had outstanding warrants from Bexar County for multiple sex-related offenses.
On December 17, Rivera, a 23-year-old U.S. citizen, was referred for a secondary inspection at the Gateway to the Americas Bridge. During this process, biometric data revealed that she was wanted for a felony probation violation. This violation stemmed from an original charge of indecency with a child by exposure. Additionally, she had a warrant for being an absconded sexual offender, issued by the San Antonio Police Department.
Alberto Flores, the port director at Laredo, highlighted the importance of such vigilance, especially during the busy holiday season. He stated, “Our frontline CBP officers maintain strict attention to detail, which resulted in the apprehension of a woman wanted for serious offenses involving a child.” This arrest underscores the commitment of law enforcement to keeping communities safe.
After her arrest, Rivera was taken to the county jail to face her charges. The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office later confirmed her return to local custody.
