After an amazing night in the Champions League, Mikel Arteta couldn’t stop praising his team. They scored a whopping seven goals against PSV, breaking the record for the largest away win in the tournament’s history during the knockout stage.
“It was a beautiful night,” Arteta said. “The players made it enjoyable. This was a significant match, and they played beautifully. To score that many goals in such a crucial game is really impressive.”
This victory marks our fifth straight win in Europe. It’s also a nice comeback after two games in the Premier League where we didn’t score. Arteta expressed his delight at the team’s return to form. “We talked about rising to the occasion. In moments like these, it’s essential to elevate your game,” he noted. “Players showed great initiative, like when a full-back assists Myles Lewis-Skelly, Jurrien Timber scores a goal, and Calafiori makes a perfect run. That’s the teamwork we want to see.”
He acknowledged the strength of PSV, recalling their recent victory over Juventus. “PSV is a solid team, so we deserve credit for how we played,” he said.
On a night filled with six different scorers, Arteta reminded everyone that this is just half-time in the matchup. “I’m thrilled for the players, especially after recent struggles. We created many chances and yet couldn’t score. That’s football for you. You shouldn’t talk too much; just keep working hard, and good things will come.”
“This is the Champions League, and we’ll have to show our strength again next week,” he added. “We need to prove who we are and how determined we are to win.”
