Arunachal Pradesh has taken a big step forward with its first commercial coal mining project at Namchik Namphuk in Changlang district. The inauguration, attended by Union Minister for Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy and Chief Minister Pema Khandu, marks an exciting time for the state’s economy.
During the ceremony, officials performed a Bhumi Pujan and launched a “100-tree plantation initiative” at the site. They also officially handed over the mining lease and celebrated the start of operations with the flagging off of tools and machinery by the Central Coal Block team.
Minister Reddy noted the project’s importance, calling it “a symbol of new hope.” With an estimated 1.5 crore tonnes of coal reserves, the Namchik Namphuk Coal Mine is set to play a key role in ensuring energy security and fostering regional growth in North East India.
Chief Minister Khandu highlighted the economic benefits of the mine, including job creation and attracting investments. He believes the project will empower local communities and promote sustainable development.
Recent data from the Indian Ministry of Coal shows that coal mining provides around 1.3 million jobs directly and supports over 5 million indirectly across the country. This project aligns with India’s broader goal of reducing energy imports and promoting self-sufficiency, as outlined in the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
In the community, reactions have been positive, with many locals expressing hope that the new jobs will help improve living standards. Social media is buzzing with discussions on how this initiative might change the economic landscape in Arunachal Pradesh and beyond.
Overall, the Namchik Namphuk Coal Mine stands as a beacon of progress, promising not just economic growth but also a chance for Arunachal Pradesh to play a significant role in India’s energy future.
