Arunachal Pradesh Leads the Way: India’s First State to Launch Pioneering Climate Declaration with the Pakke Pact

In an exciting move for the environment, Arunachal Pradesh has become the first Indian state to launch a climate declaration, known as the Pakke Declaration. This initiative was announced by Chief Minister Pema Khandu.

At the core of this declaration is the Panch Dhara Framework. It focuses on five key themes:

These themes support 75 strategic actions across eight sectors to effectively address climate challenges. The Pakke Declaration sets clear, time-bound targets for the short term (2023), medium term (2030), and long term (2047). It also emphasizes the importance of climate-linked financing to promote sustainable growth and resilience against natural disasters.

What makes this declaration special is its respect for traditional knowledge. Community involvement is crucial, ensuring that progress does not harm nature. “Rooted in indigenous wisdom and driven by community participation, it charts the path toward a climate-resilient Arunachal,” said CM Pema Khandu. This statement highlights that the declaration is about empowering people to drive environmental change.
