Jaipur: Ashok Gehlot, the former Chief Minister of Rajasthan and a senior Congress leader, has raised concerns about how Indian immigrants are treated in the United States. He criticized the practice of deporting Indian immigrants in military planes while shackled, calling the method “inhumane.”
Gehlot pointed out that this troubling situation continues because the Indian government hasn’t firmly addressed it. His remarks come as reports suggest that immigrants from countries like Russia and China are returned home on regular passenger flights, not military aircraft.
In a post on social media, Gehlot described how Indian immigrants are being labeled as illegal and are forced into this harsh treatment. He stated, “America is sending all the immigrants from India in military planes, tied in shackles, calling them illegal.”
He highlighted the disparity in treatment between Indian immigrants and those from other nations, claiming that the latter are afforded a more respectful return process. Gehlot also took a swipe at the Indian government’s response, noting that despite discussions between Prime Minister Modi and US President Trump, there has been no public condemnation of these practices from the Indian side.
Gehlot stressed that the Indian government should protest against this degrading treatment of its citizens. He emphasized that such disparities in how the US treats immigrants from different countries could harm the relationship between India and the US, despite the friendly exchanges between their leaders.
