Assured Fuel Supply: Dangote’s Commitment to Steady Petrol and Diesel Availability – Your Source for the Latest in Climate and Renewable Energy News

Dangote Petroleum Refinery is dedicated to providing a reliable supply of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and diesel across Nigeria. With a capacity to produce over 45 million liters of PMS and 25 million liters of diesel daily, the refinery clearly surpasses the country’s energy needs.

According to Anthony Chiejina, the Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer at Dangote Industries, their goal is to support Nigeria’s energy stability and build consumer trust. By working closely with regulatory agencies and distribution partners, they aim to ensure efficient delivery throughout the nation.

Chiejina pointed out that local production of oil products has strengthened the Nigerian economy. It lessens foreign exchange outflows, enhancing the naira’s value. He stressed the importance of a new tariff policy designed to protect local businesses from unfair competition. This tariffs help local industries grow by preventing the flooding of the market with cheap imports, which have historically undercut domestic production.

For instance, in the past, excessive imports disrupted various sectors, including textiles, which was a major employer in Nigeria. Chiejina believes that without protective measures, industries risk facing similar issues today.

Furthermore, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s recent approval of this tariff exemplifies a commitment to foster a favorable business environment. Chiejina noted that this initiative is crucial for transforming the downstream oil sector, creating jobs, and ensuring energy security.

He urged industry players to collaborate with the government to promote local manufacturing and curb harmful dumping practices. By adopting a collective approach, stakeholders can drive national industrial growth and economic stability.

The Dangote Refinery also aims to alleviate fuel shortages that have plagued Nigeria, particularly during festive seasons. Chiejina assured Nigerians that fuel prices would remain stable, even during peak demand periods.

Since starting petrol production in September 2024, the refinery has made a noticeable impact. For example, the average price of PMS dropped from about N1,030 per litre in September 2024 to N841–N851 per litre in September 2025. Similarly, the price of diesel decreased from N1,700 to around N1,020 per litre within the same timeframe.

In comparison to neighboring West African countries, where petrol prices range from $1.20 to $2.00 per litre, Nigeria’s prices remain around $0.60 per litre. This dramatic difference highlights the refinery’s success in making fuel more affordable.

In conclusion, Dangote Petroleum Refinery’s efforts not only bolster local supply but also contribute to the country’s economic resilience. By protecting local industries and ensuring stability in fuel prices, they are paving the way toward a more prosperous future for Nigeria.
