Making the decision to move on from Grady Jarrett wasn’t easy for Atlanta. He has been a true leader on the team and a role model in the community.
Jarrett joined the Falcons as a fifth-round pick in 2015. He started off as a backup but quickly made a name for himself after a standout performance in Super Bowl 2017, where he recorded three sacks. From that point on, his career took off. Between 2017 and 2021, he racked up 21.5 sacks and 43 tackles for loss, becoming one of the team’s key players.
During his time in Atlanta, Jarrett stood out on some of the franchise’s most successful teams. He earned back-to-back Pro Bowl selections after registering a career-high of 7.5 sacks in 2019 and four sacks in 2020. Even when there were concerns about the defense, he was a reliable part of the solution.
At 32, Jarrett recently signed a three-year contract extension and was supposed to play through 2025. After recovering from an ACL injury last season, he played all 17 games in 2024. He finished with 53 tackles, nine tackles for loss, and 2.5 sacks. With his departure, Atlanta has drafted two young defensive linemen, Ruke Orhorhoro and Brandon Dorlus, who will likely take on bigger roles moving forward.
The new league year kicks off on March 12 at 4 PM ET, marking the start of free agency. Teams can begin discussing contracts with free agents as early as March 10, paving the way for new signings and fresh talent.
