ATP Tour Clarifies Daniil Medvedev’s ‘Best Effort’ Controversy at the China Open

The umpire, Adel Nour, issued a “best effort” warning when Medvedev stayed still on one point. According to ATP rules, players must try their best or risk a fine of up to $40,000 for violations.

Medvedev sought clarification from the tournament supervisor, expressing his frustration that players can’t communicate their issues without fear of reprimand. He questioned the referee’s authority, saying, “Who are you to decide for me?”
