Attention Cat Owners: Important Recall Alert for Cat Food Due to Potential Bird Flu Contamination

Savage Pet has recently issued a recall for its raw chicken cat food due to concerns about potential bird flu contamination. This recall affects both large 84-ounce boxes and small 21-ounce boxes of their product, all with a best-by date of November 15, 2026.

This pet food was sold in five states: California, Colorado, New York, Pennsylvania, and Washington. The packaging is distinctive, resembling a cat’s head and marked with a yellow outline around the logo.

On March 15, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced this recall. They advised anyone who bought the affected cat food to return it for a refund instead of feeding it to pets. If cats have consumed this food, pet owners should monitor them for symptoms of bird flu, officially known as Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) H5N1. Symptoms in cats can include fever, lethargy, and respiratory issues.

This recall comes shortly after a similar situation involving Wild Coast Raw, which also recalled products due to bird flu worries. Sampling by state agriculture departments in Oregon and Washington detected the same strain of the virus in cats that had ingested contaminated food.
