Attention EV Owners: Test Out This Game-Changing Feature That Every Vehicle Should Have!

Have you tried a Digital Key yet? It’s a game-changer for car ownership. General Motors (GM) is finally bringing this feature to life for some electric vehicle (EV) drivers.

GM recently invited a select group of Cadillac EV owners to participate in a beta program for the Digital Key. This feature allows you to unlock and drive your car using just your smartphone or smartwatch. It’s convenient—who really wants to fumble with keys when your phone is always in your hand?

This invite went out to owners of the 2026 Cadillac Lyriq and Optiq. However, you’ll need a model from 2025 or later that’s equipped properly to use the Digital Key.

To make it work, you’ll need at least an iPhone 11 or a Google Pixel 6. Also, don’t forget that an active OnStar service plan is required!

The excitement doesn’t stop there. In June, Apple announced that various auto brands, including GM’s Chevrolet and GMC, will soon support digital keys via Apple Wallet. The rollout for all models should happen soon, but Cadillac drivers are at the forefront right now.

But, why has it taken GM so long? Tesla introduced its digital keys back in 2017. Many other brands, like Ford and BMW, followed suit. In fact, a recent survey found that nearly 70% of car buyers now expect convenient digital features, like smartphone access to their vehicles. If GM wants to keep up in the electric vehicle space, it needs to move faster.

According to experts, embracing digital technology can help automakers retain a strong customer base. The automotive industry is rapidly evolving, and tech-savvy buyers are leaning toward brands that offer innovative features. Cadillac often claims to lead in luxury EVs, but to maintain that status, they need to stay ahead in technology, not lag behind.

For now, as some Cadillac owners get ready to beta test this exciting new feature, there’s hope that it will soon be available to all GM drivers. Given today’s expectations of tech integration in our vehicles, it seems like the right move.
