Aubrey Plaza surprised everyone by appearing at the Saturday Night Live 50th anniversary special on Sunday. This was her first public event since the passing of her husband, Jeff Baena. Just a week earlier, she deleted her Instagram account, making her appearance all the more significant.

Aubrey, who had hosted SNL two years ago, took the stage to introduce a performance by Miley Cyrus and Brittany Howard. She was not scheduled to attend the Golden Globes, where she was set to present an award, but chose to step out for this special occasion instead.
On the night of the event, Aubrey wore black dress pants, a blazer, and a simple tee underneath. Notably, she chose to wear a tie-dye shirt, which many believe is a tribute to Jeff. In a previous interview, Aubrey mentioned how Jeff became fond of tie-dyeing during the pandemic, even creating matching pajamas for their wedding.
During the SNL special, Miley Cyrus, Brittany Howard, and The Roots performed “Nothing Compares 2 U,” a tribute to the late Sinéad O’Connor.
As for Jeff Baena, he was found dead at his Los Angeles home in January. The official cause was ruled as suicide. He and Aubrey had been together for over ten years and secretly married in 2020. The couple did not have children.
Three days after his death, Aubrey and her family released a heartfelt statement expressing their grief and gratitude for the support they received. Jeff Baena was known for his work in film, including co-writing the indie classic “I Heart Huckabees.” He studied at New York University and moved to Los Angeles to pursue his dreams in entertainment.
