Augusta University Celebrates Avery Jaynes and Emily McBride in Inspiring Special Commencement Ceremony

AUGUSTA, Ga. – This week, Augusta University celebrated student-athletes Avery Jaynes and Emily McBride in a special mini commencement ceremony. They missed the main graduation event to compete in a national track meet.

In an intimate setting at Christenberry Fieldhouse, university leaders, faculty, staff, and family gathered to honor these two outstanding athletes. President Russell T. Keen, EdD, congratulated the graduates, while Retired Brig. Gen. Jeff Foley shared inspiring words in his keynote address. Additional insights were provided by Dr. Judi Wilson, Dean of the College of Education and Human Development, and Dr. Jennifer Sullivan, Interim Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs.

Jaynes and McBride were recognized not only for their athletic achievements but also for their hard work in academics. Both have excelled in their sports; Jaynes is a two-time Peach Belt Conference Cross Country Runner of the Year and holds records in the 5,000m and 10,000m. McBride, an All-Region honoree, holds the record in the 3,000m steeplechase.
