Generous Donation Boosts Agriculture Program at APSU
In Clarksville, TN, Joan Dewald and her sister, Jennette Volpe, have made a heartfelt gift to support the agriculture program at Austin Peay State University (APSU). They have established the Volpe/Dewald Agriculture Fund of Excellence Endowment.
Joan shared that this is a meaningful investment for Jennette and her late husband, Angelo Volpe, who dedicated much of their lives to education. They moved to Tennessee when Angelo became president of Tennessee Technological University. Shortly after, Dr. Ernest Dewald, Joan’s husband, arrived in Clarksville for his military duty as a dental residency program director.
“We’re proud to support APSU and the agriculture program,” said Ernest Dewald. “Our contribution aims to offer vital resources and training for students.”
The Dewald family has a history of supporting APSU. They’ve contributed to various funds, including the Farm Expansion Fund, and are active in community initiatives.
Kris Phillips, APSU’s Vice President for Alumni, Engagement and Philanthropy, expressed gratitude for their commitment. “This support will foster innovation and growth within the agriculture department, creating a lasting legacy.”
Endowments like this one are crucial as they provide stable funding for educational programs. According to a recent report from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education, university endowments have grown significantly over the last decade, highlighting the increasing importance of such financial support in education.
By investing in endowments, donors not only help students today but also secure opportunities for future generations.
