Austin Peay State University (APSU) women’s golf team is gearing up for an exciting season. Head coach Jessica Combs is entering her seventh year, and the team will kick off its season at the Total Athlete Collegiate tournament on September 8-9, 2025. This year, they’ll compete at the Country Club of the North in Xenia, Ohio, alongside fellow Atlantic Sun Conference member Bellarmine.
The tournament features several challenging opponents, including Akron, Youngstown State, and Murray State.
Leading the team is Jillian Breedlove, who averaged 74.94 strokes last season—a notable performance. She recorded a season-low score of 68 during the Rainbow Wahine Invitational in Hawaii. Following her will be freshman Ella Arnzen, the 2023 Idaho 5A Girls State Champion. Arnzen also qualified for the 2023 Junior PGA Championship and showcased her skills on the national stage by competing for Team Idaho in the Girls Junior Americas Cup.
Next in the lineup is Abby Jimenez, who averaged 80.78 strokes over three tournaments, achieving a low score of 76 at the Nashville Invitational. Abby Hirtzel, a junior, follows her, having averaged 77.75 strokes and hitting a season-low of 72 at the Lady Red Wolves Classic.
Katie Roberts, another freshman, rounds out the scoring lineup. She was recognized as a First Team All-State selection by the Kentucky Golf Coaches Association, contributing to her high school team’s success in the KHSAA State Championships. Additionally, Jordin Cowling will compete individually.
The APSU Govs will start each day with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m., and fans can follow their progress through live scoring updates.
Interestingly, women’s golf continues to gain popularity, with participation rates increasing. According to the National Golf Foundation, the number of female golfers in the U.S. has grown by 50% over the last decade. This trend indicates a rising interest and greater support for women in sports.
