Austrian authorities have charged a 21-year-old man with terrorism for allegedly planning an attack on Taylor Swift’s concert scheduled for August 2024 in Vienna. The suspect has been in custody since his arrest in August. If convicted, he could face up to 20 years in prison.
The prosecutors accuse him of being part of a terrorist group since May 2023, aligning himself with the “Islamic State” and sharing its propaganda through messaging platforms. He reportedly sought weapons, created a small amount of explosives, and worked on a shrapnel bomb similar to those used in IS attacks.
In response to threats, three dates of Swift’s “Eras” tour were canceled in the summer of 2024. Swift expressed her fear and guilt online, noting that many fans had been looking forward to attending those shows.
This isn’t the first time an attack has been planned against her concerts. A Berlin court previously sentenced a 16-year-old Syrian boy to 18 months under suspension for his involvement in a similar plot against a Swift concert in Vienna.
