Ball State Women’s Golf Team Shines at Diamante Intercollegiate
The Ball State women’s golf team had an outstanding performance at the Diamante Intercollegiate, finishing with a record 54-hole score of -2 (862). This marked a significant achievement for the program.
The tournament began with an impressive start. The team shot a program-best opening round of -6 (282) on Sunday. They followed up with a solid +4 (292) on Monday, leading to a total score of -2 (574) after two rounds.
On the final day, seniors Jasmine Driscoll, Sarah Gallagher, Sabrina Langerak, along with sophomore Sophie Korthuijs and junior Jenna Estravillo, aimed to further improve their standing. Head coach Cameron Andry noted the importance of this momentum heading into the winter break. “It’s great to finish strong,” he said. He praised the team’s hard work, which paid off after a previous struggle in Kansas.
Korthuijs led the team in the last round with a collegiate-best score of -3 (69), which included four birdies and 13 pars. This performance helped her climb the leaderboard, finishing tied for 19th at +1 (217). Gallagher and Langerak also played well, both scoring +1 (73) and finishing tied for 14th overall at E (216). They each had a total of 11 birdies throughout the tournament.
Driscoll managed to finish 31st overall at +3 (219) and ranked 12th in par-making with 37 pars, along with seven birdies. Estravillo contributed with a round of +2 (74) and a career-low opening round of -2 (70), finishing 58th at +8 (224).
Andry highlighted the team’s depth. “Every player in the top five had at least one round under par,” he emphasized. With excitement for the spring season, he believes the team has even more potential to show.
Overall, Ball State placed fourth out of 18 teams, with Boston College winning the tournament with an impressive -28 (836). Seattle followed in second at -10 (854), and Central Arkansas came in at -3 (861).
The Cardinals excelled in specific areas as well, tying for third in par-5 scoring at 4.82 (-11) and ranking fourth in par-4 scoring at 4.09 (+14). They also ranked third among the teams with 47 total birdies.
As the fall season wraps up, the players will focus on training before kicking off the spring season at the Rio Verde Invitational, happening Feb. 20-22 in Rio Verde, Arizona. The goals remain high for the team, aiming to build on this momentum and achieve even greater success in the springs ahead.
