MIAMI (AP) — Bam Adebayo made headlines with an incredible performance, scoring 83 points to lead the Miami Heat to a 150-129 victory over the Washington Wizards. This marks the second-highest scoring game in NBA history, only behind Wilt Chamberlain’s legendary 100-point game in 1962.
Adebayo started strong, putting up 31 points in the first quarter alone. By halftime, he had 43, and he finished the third quarter with 62 points. His shooting was impressive; he made 20 of 43 shots, hit 36 of 43 free throws, and sank 7 of 22 three-pointers.
With those free throw stats, Adebayo set two new NBA records. The previous record for free throws made in a game was 28, held by Chamberlain and Adrian Dantley. Adebayo surpassed that with a remarkable accuracy at the line, breaking Dwight Howard’s record for free throw attempts in a game, which stood at 39.
This performance allowed Adebayo to pass Kobe Bryant, whose career-high was 81 points. LeBron James previously held the record for the highest single-game score for the Heat with 61 points against Charlotte back in 2014. Nikola Jokic’s season-best of 56 points was also eclipsed.
The Heat are on a roll, winning six straight games and currently sitting at a season-best eight games above .500. Even with injuries affecting key players like Tyler Herro and Norman Powell, Adebayo’s performance shined bright.
On the other side, the Wizards struggled once again, suffering their ninth consecutive loss. Alex Sarr led the team with 28 points, but with Trae Young out due to knee management, they couldn’t find the momentum needed to compete.
Next up, the Wizards will face off against Orlando, while the Heat will host the Milwaukee Bucks. As the NBA season unfolds, all eyes will be on Adebayo to see if he can maintain this incredible level of play.
