Bangor Food Truck Rallies to Support Family of Boy Battling Rare Cancer: Discover How You Can Help

BANGOR, Maine — A food truck in Bangor is stepping up to support a local family in need.

In October, we shared the story of Riley Wheaton. He was hospitalized at Boston Children’s Hospital with what doctors thought was a serious heart condition. A viral infection had caused fluid to build up around his heart.

Unfortunately, things took a turn. This month, Riley returned to the hospital for the third time. Biopsy results revealed he has a rare form of cancer called angiosarcoma, which affects the heart.

Anik Derphilibossian, a nurse with 13 years of experience, said this type of cancer is quite rare, especially in a child. “I’ve only seen one case in an adult,” she noted. Anik also owns the Dreamer Food Truck and works with Riley’s mom, Kristina Wheaton.

Feeling a strong urge to help, Anik and her team came up with a plan. “We love Kristina,” she said. “She’s always supporting others, so we wanted to do something for her.”

Kristina shared that right now, their family needs prayers the most. They are grateful for the outpouring of love and support they’ve received and are determined to stay positive.

To help Riley’s family, Dreamer Food Truck will hold a lunch special this Thursday. All proceeds from sales will go directly to the Wheaton family, and the food truck will match donations made that day.

Additionally, a GoFundMe page has been set up for the Wheatons. You can find it here.
