Bay Area Alert: Expected Low-Pressure System According to BMD Forecast

A low pressure system is expected to develop over the North Bay and Central Bay of Bengal on October 1, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department.

Recently, a strong low pressure in the Northwest Bay intensified into a depression, crossing the coasts of South Odisha and North Andhra Pradesh early Saturday morning. As of now, this depression has moved inland and is being classified as a land depression over South Odisha.

The system is anticipated to continue moving westward but will gradually weaken. A mild heat wave is affecting regions like Rangpur, Sylhet, and parts of Rajshahi, Bogura, and Chuadanga, though this is expected to ease soon.

The monsoon activity in Bangladesh is currently low, with some pockets of moisture over the North Bay. The monsoon trough stretches from East Uttar Pradesh through Madhya Pradesh and Odisha, continuing across the southern part of Bangladesh and into Assam.

According to the meteorological bulletin, light to moderate rain or thunder showers might occur in regions including Mymensingh, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram, and Sylhet. Some areas in Rangpur, Rajshahi, and Dhaka may also experience isolated showers, with localized heavier rainfall possible.

Temperatures during the day and night are likely to dip slightly.

Expert Insights: Meteorologists emphasize the importance of monitoring these low pressure areas as they can influence weather patterns significantly. Dr. Amina Chowdhury, a climatologist, notes that while low pressure systems can bring relief from the heat, they also pose risks for flash flooding, especially in urban areas.

Recent Statistics: According to a Bangladesh Climate Change Study, rainfall patterns are becoming less predictable. Over the last decade, the country has seen a 30% increase in unpredictable rainfall events, which can severely impact agriculture and local economies.

Staying informed about weather changes is crucial as these systems develop, especially for farmers and those living in vulnerable areas. Regular updates from the Bangladesh Meteorological Department can help communities prepare for potential weather impacts.
